Grief Support Groups

CHANS Home Health Care Hospice Care Program offers the  peer grief and bereavement support groups free to our local community.

Please call the Bereavement Services Coordinator at (207) 721-1357 to learn more about our support groups. You will be invited, should you wish to a meeting with the Coordinator will help you determine which of our support groups is best fits your needs.

Except where noted all groups meet at our office, 45 Baribeau Dr., Brunswick, ME.

Current Groups

Adult Grief Support Group* 

Open to any adult whose have experienced a loss through death.
  * One group meets at our 45 Baribeau Drive location while a second group meets at a different time at The Highlands inTopsham. Both groups are open to all.


Grieving Children’s Program*

Grief support for children, teens and families. Sessions meet weekly for 8 weeks. Families are divided into age appropriate groups and groups activities and discussions are aged based
  * This group meets at The United Methodist Church, 320 Church Rd. 


Suicide Loss Support Group for Adults

For adults who have lost a loved one due to suicide 


Structured 7-Week Adult Grief Support Program

An adult structured support group using the work of Alan Wolfelt, Ph.D. to guide the group process.

This group is offered during the holiday season as well as in the spring. 


Living Loss, Living Hope (LLLH) 

An anticipatory grief support for individuals or families facing life- threatening illness or other losses.

* The group meetsThe Highlands inTopsham on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 2- 3:30pm.


  Grieving Parent Support Group

 Open to any adult who has experienced a loss of a child (all ages).


Men and Loss

A grief support group for men who have experienced loss through death of someone important in their lives.


Pet Loss

Grief support group following death of a pet or anticipation of a pet death.


  A pre-attendance meeting is required to attend all but the Pet Loss Support Group so that we can connect you with the appropriate group based on your needs.


Groups are free of charge.

Snow policy: If the Brunswick schools are closed, the Hospice Center is closed and all programs are cancelled
All services provided by our volunteers and coordinator, including home visits and consultations are free. We appreciate, and use, contributions and memorial donations from individuals, towns, and businesses to support the free services that we provide.
