Governor's Volunteer Service Awards

The 2009 Governor's Volunteer Service Awards were presented at the State House in Augusta Tuesday and five mid coast area individuals and organizations received "Exemplary Service Awards" from Gov. John Baldacci, second from left.

Honorees are, left to right, Elaine Greene of Freeport, Freeport Flag Ladies; Kristen Poeraatmadja of Bowdoinham and Sharon Kennedy of Brunswick, both of Hospice Volunteers of Mid Coast Maine, and Ed Levay of Harpswell, Mid Coast Hospital, all in the volunteer of the year category.

Not present when the picture was taken was Jim Gillies of Bath, chair of the Community Policing Partnership of Bath, which received an "Exemplary Service Award" in the outstanding non-profit category. The Governor's Awards honor Maine's most dedicated volunteers and the services they provide to the citizens of Maine. (Millie Stewart photo)
